Judith S. Beck, Ph.D. is the Director of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research, co-founded with Aaron T. Beck, M.D., and located in suburban Philadelphia. She is also a Clinical Associate
Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and the Past President of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
Dr. Beck divides her time between teaching, supervision, clinical work, administration, teaching, supervision, research, program consultation, education material, development, and writing. She has presented
hundreds of workshops nationally and internationally on various applications of Cognitive Therapy. A consultant for several NIMH
research studies, she also co-developed the Beck Youth Inventories for Social and Emotional Impairment. She is the author of Cognitive Therapy: Basics and Beyond, the basic text in the field which has been translated into 20 languages. She has also
authored Cognitive Therapy of Personality Disorders, Cognitive Therapy for Challenging
Patients, and the Oxford Textbook of Psychotherapy. Her best-selling book for consumers, The
Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person, was described in Newsweek Magazine as, ‘the best book ever on the psychology of permanent weight loss.’
